The will to win

Always focused on being the best he can be, Damin's will to win was established early on as a top student-athlete throughout his high school and college years. In his final two years at Apollo High School, his teams posted a 51-4 record - at one point winning 44 consecutive regular season games. In his senior year he averaged 27.2 points, 8.1 assists and 3.5 steals per game. He was voted Arizona State 5A Player of the Year, Arizona First Team All-State, Converse All American and twice, Student-Athlete of the year.

After choosing a full scholarship to Pepperdine University over several high profile college offers, Damin as starting point guard, helped lead them to 3 NCAA Tournament appearances, 3 West Coast Conference Regular Season Championships and 3 West Coast Conference Tournament Championships. At one point his team broke the West Coast Conference consecutive win total, set by the University of San Francisco featuring Bill Russell and K.C. Jones in 1956, by winning 38 consecutive games. They also set the best West Coast Conference consecutive road win total at 28 games.

Damin graduated as a 1,000+ point scorer, averaging 15.2 points and 3.5 assists per game his senior season. That year, in the NCAA tournament, Damin scored 21 points, made 6 assists and zero turnovers to be named Chevrolet Player of the Game in Pepperdine's overtime loss to third seeded Michigan, which featured two future NBA players, Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard.

This is the same will to win he brings to coaching today.
